Dr. Amir Anwary, a veterinarian from South Africa, is urging pet owners to cease giving their dogs common human names, describing the practice as a significant issue. He finds it particularly awkward when he must perform intimate medical procedures on dogs with names like Craig, Sarah, Geoff, or Jared.
In an online video that has garnered over 300,000 views, Dr. Anwary expressed his strong feelings on the matter. He stated, "I don't know which dog owner needs to hear this but you need to stop giving dogs human names that have no business being dog names." He emphasized that while some human names are acceptable for dogs, such as Oscar, Harvey, or Archie, others are inappropriate.
Dr. Anwary identified names like Daniel, William, and Patricia as unsuitable for canine companions. He suggested that some human names might carry connotations that do not align with a pet's role, humorously questioning if a dog named Jason might be a "philanderer."
The veterinarian's stance has sparked a lively debate online, with many pet owners sharing their own experiences.
