Venice Beach Sushi Favorite Wabi on Rose Closes After Six Years
The popular restaurant cited a "heavy heart" in announcing its permanent closure.

Wabi on Rose, a popular sushi restaurant in Venice Beach, has closed its doors permanently after a six-year run. The restaurant announced the closure on social media Tuesday, stating, "After many wonderful years of serving the community, we are permanently closing our doors." A message on the restaurant's door also conveyed the news, thanking patrons for their support.
The restaurant was known for its contemporary Japanese cuisine, with signature dishes including crispy tuna rice and tiger rolls. Wabi on Rose was also recognized for its distinctive pink takeout boxes and bags, contributing to its trendy image.
Fans of the eatery expressed surprise and disappointment at the sudden closure. Comments on social media indicated a strong customer base that valued the unique offerings and atmosphere of the restaurant.
Wabi on Rose was previously located on Venice's Abbott Kinney Boulevard, where it operated for 19 years before a fire in December 2018 led to its closure. The restaurant reopened on Rose Avenue in April 2020, operating with takeout and delivery options during the pandemic. Executive chef Rain Pantana helmed the kitchen at the Rose Avenue location.
The closure of Wabi on Rose adds to a series of restaurant shutdowns in the Los Angeles area. Other recent closures include Italian restaurant Cinque Terre West and the Venice Beach location of VooDoo Doughnut.
