Federal authorities have charged four Venezuelan nationals in connection with a scheme that allegedly defrauded ATMs of more than $529,000. The group is accused of using malware and hardware to exploit machines located at rest stops along Interstate 95 in Connecticut.
The alleged operation, which lasted less than two weeks, involved "jackpotting" the ATMs, a method where malware is used to force the machines to dispense all available cash. Prosecutors stated that the defendants are part of a larger criminal organization.
The arrests and charges come amid ongoing debates and concerns regarding immigration and border security, with officials emphasizing the need to track individuals entering the country and prevent potential criminal activity.
