Venezuelan Composer Gus Ormo Found Dead in Florida Pool, Investigation Underway

The body of Venezuelan singer and composer Gus Ormo was found at the bottom of his swimming pool in Weston, Florida, on Friday morning, prompting a homicide investigation by the Broward Sheriff's Office. Authorities were alerted to a potential drowning after receiving an emergency call around 9 a.m. reporting that the individual in the water had been tied up.

Ormo, a pianist known for his romantic compositions, was discovered face down in the pool at his home in a gated community near Fort Lauderdale. While the initial 911 dispatch mentioned the victim being tied, investigators have not yet publicly confirmed if a cord played a role in his death. Aerial footage from the scene showed a blue cord on the patio, with a portion extending into the pool.

The Broward Sheriff's Office has assigned homicide and crime scene detectives to the case. Spokesperson Gerdy St. Louis confirmed that the circumstances surrounding Ormo's death are being examined. The musician's body was transported to the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office, where the cause of death is pending.

The discovery has unsettled the quiet Weston neighborhood, with residents describing Ormo as a private individual. Neighbors expressed shock, noting the rarity of such incidents in their community.

Ormo's family has been informed of his death but has stated they have received limited information from authorities. It remains unclear who made the emergency call, how long Ormo had been in the pool, or if anyone else was present at the property when deputies arrived.

Ormo, who had owned his Weston residence for several years, dedicated his career to creating compositions that explored themes of love, human connection, and his Venezuelan heritage. He had recently been promoting his latest album, "AGAPE," an instrumental piano collection described as a career milestone. In his promotional materials, Ormo spoke of his desire for listeners to reconnect with suppressed emotions, stating the album was an "invitation to feel without filters or need for words."

Earlier this year, Ormo attended a red-carpet event in Aventura, Florida, where he discussed his career and his pride in his Venezuelan roots. He had also composed a piece intended to promote national reconciliation and unity within his homeland, reflecting his belief in music's ability to bridge divides.
