Venezuelan Composer Found Dead in South Florida Pool
Authorities are investigating the death of Gus Ormo as a 'suspicious incident' after he was found submerged and "tied up" in his backyard pool.
Venezuelan composer Gus Ormo was discovered "tied up" and at the bottom of his South Florida backyard pool in what authorities have described as a "suspicious incident." Ormo, a pianist and singer known for his romantic compositions, was pronounced dead at the scene by Broward County Sheriff's deputies who responded to a 911 call.
The 911 call audio indicated that a person reported a man who had been "tied up" and possibly drowned in a pool. Aerial footage from local media outlet WPLG Local 10 showed a long blue cord tangled on the musician’s patio leading into the backyard pool.
Ormo's sister, Antonieta Ormo, confirmed his death but stated the family had no further information regarding the circumstances. The Broward Sheriff's Office confirmed that homicide and crime scene unit detectives are investigating the death. Ormo's body was transported to the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Neighbors in the gated community of Weston described Ormo as a private individual and expressed shock at the incident. Ormo had recently been promoting his latest album, AGAPE, an instrumental piano collection described in an October press release as a "milestone in his career."
