Vauxhall Unveils STX Concept, Hinting at Future Electric Estate Design
The concept car challenges the trend toward SUVs by focusing on an electric estate design with advanced features.
Vauxhall has revealed the STX Concept, an electric estate car that signals the brand's potential direction for future models, including a possible next-generation Astra estate. Unveiled ahead of the Paris Motor Show, the STX Concept moves against the prevailing trend of electric SUVs, aiming instead to re-energize interest in traditional, lower-profile vehicles with significant cargo space.
This concept car is also the first to feature Vauxhall's updated Griffin emblem, now designed to be more prominent when illuminated. While specific technical details are limited, it is known that the STX employs an all-wheel-drive electric architecture and is capable of reaching a top speed of 124 mph. Vauxhall describes the STX EV as embodying the 'next stage of Vauxhall's design philosophy,' characterized by boldness, efficiency, emotion, and purity.
The STX Concept incorporates an evolved version of Vauxhall's Vizor front fascia. On this concept, the Vizor is presented as taller and more assertive, featuring a new, angular vertical lighting signature that extends from the edges towards the center. The illuminated Griffin emblem is centrally positioned, complementing the sharp, sporty front aesthetic. The vehicle's overall form is that of a flush, aerodynamic estate with a futuristic rear and a steeply sloping profile. The rear lighting mirrors the vertical elements seen at the front.
Aerodynamic considerations are evident throughout the STX's design, with short overhangs, sculpted bodywork, and three-section alloy wheels. It also features an active aerodynamic system designed to adapt to driving conditions. A notable feature of this system is the extension of blue diffusers from beneath the rear and outward-moving vertical elements behind the wheels at appropriate speeds to enhance its streamlined profile.
The concept's interior is expected to continue Vauxhall's 'Painting with Light' design approach, building on themes seen in previous concepts. It is anticipated to include lightweight seats and immersive lighting elements.
Vauxhall has stated that the STX is "more than a show car," asserting that it "previews the future development of the estate body style and introduces design elements that will appear on future Vauxhall models."
Members of the public will have the opportunity to view the STX Concept at the Paris Motor Show starting Monday.
