Vauxhall Unveils STX Concept, Hinting at Future Electric Estate Design

Vauxhall has revealed its STX Concept, an electric estate car that signals the brand's future design direction and potentially influences the next generation of the Astra estate.

The STX Concept, unveiled ahead of the Paris Motor Show, deliberately moves against the prevailing trend of electric SUVs, aiming instead to revive interest in traditional, lower-profile vehicles with ample cargo space.

This concept is the first to showcase Vauxhall's updated Griffin emblem, which features illumination to enhance its visibility and modern appeal. While specific technical details are limited, the vehicle is built on an all-wheel-drive electric architecture and is capable of reaching a top speed of 124 mph.

Vauxhall states that the STX EV embodies "the next stage of Vauxhall's design philosophy," characterized by a bolder, more efficient, emotional, and pure aesthetic compared to previous ST models.

The design incorporates the latest iteration of Vauxhall's Vizor front fascia, which is presented as taller and more prominent on the STX. The Vizor is complemented by new angular, vertical lighting signatures that sweep towards the center, where the illuminated Griffin emblem is positioned. This creates a sharp, sporty front appearance.

The car's overall profile is described as flush and aerodynamic, with a clean estate design, a futuristic rear end, and a steeply sloping roofline that extends backward. The rear lights echo the vertical design elements seen at the front.

Despite its sleek silhouette, the STX features cameras in place of traditional door mirrors, a design choice that may prove divisive among drivers. Focused on aerodynamic efficiency, the concept includes short overhangs, sculpted bodywork, and three-section alloy wheels. An active aerodynamic system adjusts continuously to driving conditions, with blue diffusers extending from beneath the rear and vertical elements behind the wheels moving outward at higher speeds to optimize the streamlined profile.

Inside, the STX is expected to feature Vauxhall's "Painting with Light" interior design theme, building on concepts introduced in previous Vauxhall models. Lightweight seats and immersive lighting elements are anticipated.

Vauxhall has indicated that the STX is "more than a show car," serving as a preview of future estate body style developments and introducing design elements that will be incorporated into upcoming Vauxhall models.
