Vanessa Feltz, 64, has spoken about the profound impact her four grandchildren have had on her life, admitting she loves them more than her own children. The media personality described her grandchildren—Zekey, 10, Neroli, 8, AJ, 5, and Cecily, 2—as "exquisitely beautiful genius grandchildren."
Feltz, who became a grandmother at 51, explained that the experience of grandparenthood is different from parenthood. "When your own children were born, you were a knackered novice, floored by threading a floppy arm into a resistant Baby-gro, panicked when the baby hiccupped, scattering sodden breast-pads, burdened with responsibility. When grandma-hood arrives, you are ready, primed, wiser than the Delphic Sibyl, an authority on everything from nappy rash to nursery décor," she wrote.
Her adoration for her grandchildren has led her to purchase a family-friendly holiday home in East Cork, Ireland, along the Wild Atlantic Way. This decision marked a significant shift for Feltz, who comes from a more modest background and was previously not a "second home person."
The broadcaster revealed that her grandchildren's presence has inspired new hobbies and a more outdoorsy lifestyle. She now enjoys activities like crabbing, playing in the sea, and engaging in imaginative games with her grandchildren. She also shared anecdotes about their playful interactions, including a humorous incident involving a request to Alexa about a musical and a chance encounter with Andrew Lloyd Webber at Cork Airport.
Feltz noted that this metamorphosis into a devoted grandmother has transformed her personality, a change mirrored in her friends who are also grandparents. "I have never met an indifferent grandparent and hope not to cross paths with so rare a species," she stated.
