Vance: Trump Administration Won't Interfere in Omar Investigation, But Law Will Be Enforced

Vice President JD Vance asserted that the Trump administration has no intention of interfering with a Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., following a raid on her Washington, D.C. home. Vance told Fox News Digital that unlike the Biden administration, the Trump administration would not allow the law to be used against political opponents.

"We really want to let the law, the facts drive this," Vance said in an exclusive interview. "And if justice requires something else be done, then, of course, we'll take a step when we have to."

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted the predawn raid on Omar's home. Vance indicated that the administration is not attempting to micromanage the DOJ's investigation, stating, "We're not trying to tell [Attorney General] Todd Blanche to do one thing or another. We try to let the facts drive this thing."

However, Vance issued a warning, stating, "If, of course, criminal wrongdoing is discovered or potentially fraudulent immigration is uncovered, then obviously there will be legal proceedings to follow that." He emphasized that the law must be enforced regardless of political considerations.

Vance also criticized Omar, a Somali-American who fled civil war in her home country with her family in 1991, for what he described as "disdain and such rage at the country that gave her a better life." He noted that while this sentiment is not a crime, the administration will pursue legal action if Omar is found to have committed a crime.

Rep. Omar responded to the raid on social media, calling it an "attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement" and an "outrageous abuse of power." She stated that Donald Trump has targeted her for years with "baseless lies and smear campaigns" and that this raid is an "escalation in his campaign of political intimidation."

Vance made these remarks following a campaign rally in Tyler, Texas, in support of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. The rally occurred in the lead-up to the midterm elections as Republicans work to maintain control of Congress. Vance contrasted the current administration's approach to investigations with past administrations, suggesting a commitment to letting facts and law guide proceedings without political influence.
