Vice President JD Vance described the ongoing negotiations to end the war in Iran as a "delicate dance," emphasizing that a "better relationship" with Iran is possible if the nation makes necessary long-term changes.

Vance, speaking on Fox News, indicated that the U.S. is applying pressure through diplomatic, economic, and military tools to achieve the best outcome for the American people. He specifically highlighted the goal of maximizing oil and gas production from the Strait of Hormuz to pre-war levels, noting that lower energy prices for Americans are a key consideration.

"We’re just going to keep on applying the pressure that we can apply and getting as much oil and gas out of the Middle East so that Americans can enjoy lower gas and energy prices," Vance said. "So that’s the delicate dance."

The conflict has led Iran to close the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane through which approximately one-fifth of the world's oil passes. This closure has contributed to increased gas and food prices in the United States, impacting public sentiment ahead of upcoming midterm elections.

Vance expressed confidence in reaching a resolution to the conflict, stating, "I feel quite confident we will get there." He also noted that the situation is "not over" and is "not at the beginning."

Discussions surrounding the war's objectives have previously focused on preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons, a stated reason for the conflict's initiation by former President Trump. Vance's recent comments suggest a strategic focus on energy markets as well.

Earlier in the week, former President Trump stated that talks with Tehran were underway and that Iran had "one last chance" to reach a deal. However, Iranian officials have denied that any negotiations are currently taking place.
