Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance have welcomed their fourth child, Alec Neel Vance, a significant event marking the first birth of a baby to a sitting vice president in more than 150 years. The couple, now parents to six, shared the news on Sunday, with Usha Vance posting family photographs featuring the newborn on Friday.
"Thank you for all the good wishes as we settle into life as a family of six," Usha Vance wrote on social media, sharing images of the infant and the entire Vance family. She humorously noted the challenge of capturing a good family photo with four children. "Meet Alec — and enjoy these attempts at taking a decent family photo with four kids!"
Alec Neel Vance was born less than a week prior to the social media posts. In their initial announcement, the Vances stated, "Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother." They also expressed gratitude to the medical teams at Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit.
President Donald Trump congratulated the Vances on his Truth Social platform, calling the baby "a perfect baby boy for the wonderful Vance family."
Historian Jane Hampton Cook has noted the historical significance of the birth within the context of a White House that emphasizes family values. The Vances are now parents to four children, with Alec being the youngest.
