Vance Declares Midterms a Referendum on 'Common Sense Versus Pure Unadulterated Crazy'
Senator JD Vance criticizes Democrats, stating the upcoming midterms will serve as a crucial test between sensible governance and what he describes as extreme ideology.
Vice President JD Vance asserted on Friday that the upcoming midterm elections will be a referendum on "common sense versus pure unadulterated crazy," as he criticized the current direction of the Democratic Party.
Speaking at a rally in Iowa, Vance stated that Democrats are no longer the party his grandparents recognized. He recalled that his father, a union steelworker, believed the Democratic Party under Franklin D. Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy represented the working class.
"This is not FDR’s party, as much as we might wish it was. It's not JFK’s party. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s not even Bill Clinton’s party," Vance said, adding that contemporary Democrats advocate for the "utterly transformed" nation rather than one that needs to be "built upon."
He cited examples of what he characterized as extreme positions among some Democratic candidates, including a candidate in New York who allegedly suggested that the Fourth of July commemorates the liberation of Palestine and Puerto Rico. Vance expressed that while such statements might seem absurd, they are made seriously by individuals who believe the country's history is inherently evil and that it requires a complete reset.
"These are the ones who will tell you that our history is evil and this country needs to be bulldozed and started over from the beginning," Vance stated.
While Vance acknowledged that some Democratic candidates are more subtle, he specifically criticized Kansas Democratic Senate candidate Adam Hamilton. Vance claimed Hamilton, despite presenting himself as a pastor, preaches about White privilege rather than the gospel. Recent polls indicate a close contest between Hamilton and incumbent Republican Senator Roger Marshall in Kansas.
Vance also voiced his support for Iowa Republicans during the rally, endorsing gubernatorial nominee Zach Lane, Representative Ashley Hinson, and congressional candidate Chris McGowan.
