A van driver played an unexpected role in apprehending a suspect in Margate when he provided a lift to an armed police officer. The officer, who was chasing a suspect on foot following an assault, entered the moving van with the sliding door still open, instructing the driver to follow the fleeing individual. "Go, go, go! Cheers buddy. Follow that police officer," the officer reportedly said.
The driver then sped off in pursuit, relaying instructions from the officer. After overtaking the suspect and another officer who was also chasing on foot, the van pulled over. The armed officer then dismounted, trained his weapon on the suspect, and made the arrest.
The driver, who remained unidentified, stated he was "glad I could be of service" and described the experience as "quite exhilarating." The incident, which occurred after an assault on High Street, was captured on camera as the motorist stopped to assist in the chase.
