A U.S. Postal Service letter carrier in Utah has been indicted for allegedly throwing out more than 300 mail ballots destined for voters in the state's June primary, according to the Justice Department. Damon Seei, 34, was arrested Tuesday and appeared in federal court in Salt Lake City, where he pleaded not guilty. A message seeking comment was sent to his attorney. According to officials, Seei was delivering mail in Eagle Mountain, Utah, when he discarded the ballots and other mail into a dumpster in a church parking lot shortly after his shift began. The motive for the alleged action remains unclear. Melissa Holyoak, the U.S. attorney for Utah, stated that Seei indicated to authorities that there was no political agenda behind his actions. The investigation is ongoing. Mail-in voting is prevalent in Utah, with most voters casting their ballots this way. Nationwide, approximately one-third of voters utilize mail-in ballots. In a separate development earlier this month, the Supreme Court rejected attempts by former President Donald Trump to implement new Postal Service rules that would have restricted mail-in voting for midterm elections.
