Utah Football Player Suspended Amid Investigation into Alleged Rape

The University of Utah has indefinitely suspended senior defensive tackle Jamal Wallace from its football program as an investigation into allegations of rape and forcible sodomy continues. The university stated on Wednesday that it was made aware of the situation on October 11 and immediately suspended Wallace.

Salt Lake County jail records indicate Wallace was arrested and booked on October 11 on misdemeanor charges of distribution of an intimate image. He faces five such counts. According to arrest documents, the player is accused of sharing footage of an alleged assault on Snapchat.

Wallace reportedly denied sexually assaulting the woman, claiming he only accessed her Snapchat to view conversations. He has not yet been formally charged with rape or sodomy but remains under investigation for these offenses. Wallace was released on $5,000 bail following his arrest.

Court documents obtained by multiple media outlets state that the woman alleges Wallace forced her to perform oral sex before sexually assaulting her on October 9. She also claimed that during the incident, Wallace took her phone, and she later discovered he had filmed the encounter and shared the footage with five individuals on Snapchat. Salt Lake police reportedly found videos of the incident on the phone, which they stated was in Wallace's possession when the recordings were made. The woman described Wallace as her "off-and-on dating partner."

Wallace, a transfer from Tennessee, had made one appearance for the Utah Utes during their season opener on September 3. He spent two seasons at Tennessee, where injuries limited his 2024 campaign to three games before he took a redshirt.

The University of Utah issued a statement saying, "We take these matters seriously. As this is a pending legal matter we have no further comment at this time."
