Utah Couple Narrowly Escapes Massive Rockslide Near Bridal Veil Falls

A terrifying rockslide occurred Friday near the popular Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon, Utah, narrowly missing a couple who were driving through the area. Bailee and Emerson Hamilton captured video of the event as massive boulders dislodged from the hillside and rolled down toward the canyon floor.

The Hamiltons, who live near the canyon, expressed concern for potential hikers and pedestrians who frequent the area, especially on a Friday afternoon. "We're up this canyon almost every day… and we know how much traffic, foot traffic, there is, especially on a Friday afternoon," Emerson Hamilton told ABC 4. "So, our first reaction was, oh no, there’s got to be people in its path."

Upon seeing the slide, the couple stopped and observed rocks on the pedestrian walkway. They then witnessed a second slide begin and quickly retreated to a safe distance.

The Utah County Government confirmed on Friday that the area was inspected and no injuries were reported. The trail, which was already scheduled to close for the season soon, has had its closure moved up due to the rockslide. It will remain closed throughout the winter, with cleanup operations planned for the spring.

Authorities have announced that several areas are now inaccessible to the public. The road between the lower and upper parking lots is closed due to ongoing construction at the base of the falls. Additionally, the trail is closed from the falls down to the lower parking lot at Nunns Park, accessible from Highway 189. The upper overlook parking lot will remain open until November 1 before it closes for the winter season.
