The U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln will dock near the Thai beach resort of Pattaya, marking a significant port call after a record 250 days at sea without stopping. The vessel, carrying nearly 5,000 crew members, is poised to offer its sailors a much-needed period of rest and relaxation.

Pattaya, known for its nightlife and historically as a destination for U.S. troops seeking respite during the Vietnam War, is expected to welcome the crew. The resort town, once a quiet fishing village, transformed into a bustling tourist hub due to the influx of American servicemen during that era.

Currently, Pattaya's tourist areas, such as Walking Street, are experiencing fewer visitors. The local economy, which has been impacted by factors including regional conflicts affecting tourism and consumer spending, anticipates a boost from the arrival of the thousands of sailors with accumulated, unspent salaries.
