USC Quarterback Maiava Throws Two Interceptions in First Quarter

USC quarterback Jayden Maiava threw two interceptions in the first quarter against Wisconsin on Saturday, a difficult start for the senior signal-caller who had only thrown three picks in the first seven games of the season.

The Trojans' first two possessions resulted in turnovers. The first interception led to a Wisconsin field goal, and the second ended in a missed field goal by the Badgers. Despite these early miscues, USC trailed by only a field goal entering the second quarter.

Maiava was able to rebound later in the game, throwing a four-yard touchdown pass that gave USC a 7-3 lead. Entering Saturday's contest, Maiava had completed 67.9% of his passes for the season with a quarterback rating of 86.6, ranking fourth nationally. He also entered the game third in passing yards.

The matchup against Wisconsin was considered crucial for USC's College Football Playoff aspirations, especially with subsequent games against highly ranked Ohio State and Indiana. Head coach Lincoln Riley's tenure with the Trojans has faced scrutiny amid a challenging start to the 2026 season, making a strong finish imperative.
