The fight occurred as Oregon quarterback Dante Moore was being attended to by medical personnel after a hit that resulted in his departure from the game and transport to a hospital.

The irony of the situation was amplified by the fact that one of the fans involved in the melee was wearing a USC jersey with the number 8, the same number as USC linebacker Desman Stephens II. Stephens was ejected in the second quarter for targeting after delivering a hit to Moore's head.

Video footage captured the intense exchange, showing the two fans trading punches while other spectators moved out of the way or recorded the incident. The fight was eventually broken up by others present, lasting approximately 20 seconds. The incident occurred while Moore was being transferred from a stretcher to an ambulance on the field.

The hit on Moore had already escalated tensions between the teams, leading to confrontations between players from both USC and Oregon. Stephens' subsequent celebration of the hit and high-fives with teammates further fueled the animosity.
