Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced on August 31 the closure of 270 commercial driver's licensing (CDL) schools, with 110 specifically being removed from the federal Training Provider Registry. These schools are accused of graduating students who are unable to speak English and of providing substandard training facilities.

Duffy stated that his department is forcing the 110 targeted schools to "immediately cease all operations." The investigation found that approximately 5,000 enrollees at these schools were unable to pass English language proficiency tests required for commercial driving licenses. The closures aim to address concerns about the competency and English language abilities of new truck drivers entering the workforce, as well as the quality of the training provided.
