A U.S. service member died Saturday during the controlled detonation of unexploded devices from a downed Iranian attack drone, U.S. Central Command announced Sunday. This death occurred in the ongoing Middle East conflict, following a massive Iranian missile attack.
CENTCOM stated that unidentified human remains were discovered at the site of the detonation. An examination is underway to determine if the remains belong to another service member who had been reported missing. The blast also resulted in minor injuries to another service member.
The incident on Saturday follows an Iranian airstrike on Friday in Jordan that killed two U.S. service members and left a third missing in action. That attack involved both drones and ballistic missiles targeting U.S. and allied forces stationed in the country.
Officials confirmed that the Friday attack was aimed at U.S. and allied forces in Jordan. The circumstances surrounding the downed Iranian attack drone and the subsequent detonation remain under investigation.
