Everton owners the Friedkin Group are exploring a sale of the club, less than two years after their takeover.
The Friedkin Group, an American ownership consortium led by billionaire Dan Friedkin, has confirmed it is seeking new investment and a potential sale of Everton Football Club. The announcement comes less than two years after the group officially became owners of the English Premier League club in December 2024. Their takeover concluded a period of instability for Everton under previous owner Farhad Moshiri.
Sources indicate the group acquired 99.5% of the club's shares through the investment vehicle Roundhouse Capital for an estimated sum exceeding £400 million. The acquisition followed a protracted sales process that saw previous potential deals with 777 Partners and MSP Sports Capital fall through. Everton had faced financial difficulties in the later years of Moshiri's ownership, coinciding with the construction of their new stadium.
In a statement, The Friedkin Group acknowledged the club's significant financial uncertainty and challenges upon their arrival. They stated their immediate priority was to provide the necessary stability, investment, and support to secure the club's future and facilitate the completion of its new stadium. With this foundation now established, the group believes the time is right to consider the next phase for Everton.
The ownership group emphasized that they will only consider offers from parties they believe are suitable stewards capable of advancing the club. The Friedkin Group stated that their focus will remain on supporting the club's on-pitch success and continuing efforts to positively impact the communities served by Everton. The club and the ownership group will refrain from further comment during this process. Moelis & Company has been retained by The Friedkin Group to manage the exploration of these investment options.
