The former Swansea City ballboy who was famously kicked by Chelsea legend Eden Hazard in 2013 has sold his vodka empire for an astonishing £300 million.
Charlie Morgan, then 17, gained viral fame in 2013 when he attempted to delay Chelsea star Eden Hazard from retrieving a ball during a match. The incident resulted in Hazard kicking Morgan and receiving a red card.
Now 30, Morgan has sold his vodka business, Au Vodka, which he co-founded with Jackson Quinn two years after the Hazard incident, for £300 million. The American spirits company Sazerac has acquired Au Vodka. The brand's popularity grew through promotions by celebrities such as Floyd Mayweather and Ronaldinho. British DJ Charlie Sloth also invested in the company nine years ago, leveraging his music industry connections.
Au Vodka has recently expanded into new offices in Swansea. Jake Wenz, CEO of Sazerac, expressed admiration for the brand, stating, "What Charlie, Jackson, and Charlie have achieved in just over a decade is spectacular and rare, and we have big plans for Au as we welcome the brand into the Sazerac family."
Morgan previously discussed the incident with Hazard, recalling how he initially thought Juan Mata had kicked him. He recounted the widespread media attention he received following the incident, describing a period of intense fame followed by a return to anonymity.
Morgan is now financially secure following the sale of the business he co-founded.
