The U.S. Navy has deployed a significant naval presence, including more than 20 warships and two aircraft carriers, to waters near Iran. The move comes two days after former President Donald Trump indicated he might reinstate a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Friday that its forces are patrolling the Middle East to promote regional security and stability. "Today, more than 20 US Navy warships are patrolling waters across the Middle East as CENTCOM forces continue promoting regional security and stability," CENTCOM posted on X.
Maritime trackers reportedly spotted the USS Abraham Lincoln and USS George H.W. Bush entering the Gulf of Oman. According to military analysts, such a deployment could be a precursor to re-establishing a blockade, which previously had a severe impact on Iran's economy.
When asked for comment regarding the possibility of reinstating a blockade, CENTCOM declined to provide details on "operational updates."
