A member of the U.S. military is reportedly facing criminal charges for winning more than $1 million through bets placed on Polymarket concerning potential American military actions in Iran and Venezuela.
A source familiar with the investigation confirmed the substantial windfall to The Post, which was first reported by The Wall Street Journal. The identity of the service member and the specific operations on which they gambled remain undisclosed.
This case is expected to be among the latest high-profile prosecutions by the Department of Justice. In April, an Army special forces member was charged with allegedly profiting $400,000 by betting on the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Prosecutors in that instance alleged unlawful use of confidential government information for personal gain, wire fraud, and money laundering.
This marks the second alleged instance of a military member profiting from insider information related to the Venezuela operation. Previously, in July, President Trump's long-time teleprompter operator was placed on leave after allegedly winning $100,000 by betting on the content of speeches ahead of their delivery on the platform Kalshi.
