US Military Aircraft Crashes at German Air Base, Pilot Injured

An American military aircraft crashed at the U.S. Air Base Spangdahlem in western Germany on Tuesday, the U.S. military confirmed. The pilot ejected from the aircraft and is receiving medical care, according to a statement from the air base.

Local emergency teams responded to the incident. Spangdahlem Air Base, located in the western German district of the same name, is home to an F-16 fighter jet squadron. The squadron, comprising approximately 20 aircraft, supports U.S. Air Force and NATO operations globally and is a central component of the air base's mission.

The base employs about 5,000 military and civilian personnel, along with their families. Additionally, between 700 and 800 German nationals are employed at the facility. The U.S. Air Force has maintained a presence at Spangdahlem since the mid-1950s, and along with Ramstein Air Base, it is considered a critical airfield for the U.S. military in the region.
