Chilling 911 audio has emerged of an American man accused of fatally stabbing his Australian wife, calmly telling an emergency operator he had done so and that she was dead. Jesse Nicholas Jones, 39, faces a second-degree murder charge in the death of his wife, Meaghan Bowler, 32, who was found unresponsive with multiple stab wounds in a bathtub at their South Manatee County home in Florida on April 9.
Paramedics were able to revive Ms. Bowler at the scene, but she died later at a hospital. According to reports, Jones, who is unemployed and worked as a real estate agent, informed the 911 operator that he had used a kitchen knife to stab his wife multiple times during an argument. He stated he had left her in the bathtub overnight.
"I stabbed my wife and now she’s dead and I’m trying to resuscitate her," Jones allegedly told the operator, according to the Daily Telegraph. "I have two children. They have a grandmother they can go to."
When asked how long ago the incident occurred, Jones reportedly replied that it happened the previous night. He also expressed his willingness to be arrested, stating, "I don't mind being arrested, or whatever has to happen, it's all fine."
Jones remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in October. Meanwhile, Ms. Bowler's family is working to bring her two young sons, two-year-old Jesse and nine-month-old Elijah, to Australia. The children are currently in the care of Jones's mother.
Ms. Bowler's younger sister, Madisson, hopes to adopt her nephews and raise them in Australia. This process could require her to relocate to Florida for up to a year. She has stated her determination to bring her nephews home so they can grow up safe and surrounded by family. The family faces challenges, including obtaining US birth certificates and social security numbers for the children, as well as completing the process for Australian citizenship by descent. These steps require significant time, financial resources, and a physical presence in the United States.
Ms. Bowler, originally from the NSW Central Coast, was a former tennis coach and real estate agent. She attended Pymble Ladies' College and graduated with a business degree from the International College of Management. She began her career with the Sydney Swans AFL club as an event executive. She also worked in recruitment and for Raine & Horne Mosman before returning to the Central Coast to coach tennis. Her sister described her as having a vibrant energy and kindness.
Ms. Bowler met her husband online in 2022. Following a long-distance relationship, she traveled to the US in 2023 for what was initially planned as a three-month visit and did not return to Australia.
