US Job Growth Slows Sharply in September, Signaling Economic Cooling

The U.S. jobs market experienced a notable slowdown in September, with employers adding only 29,000 positions, according to the latest figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). This sharp decrease in hiring comes in the final jobs report before the midterm elections.

Hiring remained largely stagnant across major sectors, including technology and retail. The September job creation figure represents a significant drop from the revised 133,000 jobs added in August.

Concurrently, the national unemployment rate saw a slight increase, rising from 4.1% in August to 4.2% in September. This uptick in unemployment, coupled with the reduced pace of job growth, indicates a cooling U.S. economy.

Analysts suggest that these trends could decrease the likelihood of further interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve, as the central bank monitors economic indicators for signs of inflation stabilization.
