The U.S. has announced a framework for future talks aimed at de-escalating the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. The announcement came as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported launching strikes on what it described as three Hezbollah command centers in southern Lebanon, stating the attacks were in response to ceasefire violations.
According to an IDF spokesperson, the strikes targeted alleged Hezbollah command centers in Nabatieh and Mayfadoun. The IDF also stated that troops dismantled a launcher used by Hezbollah for attacks. These exchanges of fire in southern Lebanon have raised concerns about their potential impact on ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Hezbollah responded to the U.S.-facilitated framework on Saturday, rejecting the agreement and stating its commitment to continuing resistance and retaining its weapons. Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have indicated plans to maintain a "security zone" in southern Lebanon.
