US Embassy in Moscow Warns of Imminent 'Mass Casualty Event' at Museum
The embassy advises Americans to avoid the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve and remain vigilant due to a credible threat.
The U.S. Embassy in Moscow has issued a warning of an imminent "mass casualty event" at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve. On Saturday, the embassy announced it was "aware of a credible threat" of an incident that could result in significant loss of life at the popular Moscow attraction.
The U.S. government is reportedly coordinating with Russian authorities on a response, according to the alert. Americans in Moscow have been advised to avoid the museum for the day and to remain alert and stay away from crowds.
The specific nature of the threat and potential perpetrators remain unclear. This warning comes amidst escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine. In recent days, Ukraine struck an oil refinery in southern Russia, and Russia launched drone and missile attacks that killed at least 27 civilians in Ukraine.
Separately, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has indicated that fresh peace talks between Russia and Ukraine could occur as early as November 10, with a U.S. team expected to lead potential summit discussions in Abu Dhabi. This would mark the first face-to-face negotiations since sanctions on Moscow were lifted.
The Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve, established in 1775 as a country estate for Catherine the Great, is a popular park and museum that was restored and opened to the public in 2007. It attracts approximately two million visitors annually.
