US Assistant Attorney Found Dead in San Diego Office Died by Suicide

Acting US Attorney Andrew Haden, 48, died by suicide, according to sources familiar with the case.

Local police discovered Haden's body inside an office at the Edward J. Schwartz Federal Building in San Diego on Wednesday. He had been reported missing earlier that day, and his body was found hours later. The medical examiner's office will officially determine the cause and manner of death.

Haden had served twice as acting US Attorney for the Southern District of California, stepping into the role during leadership transitions in 2023 and again in 2025 for approximately two months each time. He joined the US Attorney's office in 2010.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
