US and Israel Plan Renewed Strikes on Iran Post-Midterms, Sources Say

The U.S. military and the Israel Defense Forces have developed plans to resume joint strikes against Iran in the coming weeks, according to two Israeli sources familiar with the planning. These strikes are anticipated to occur after the U.S. midterm elections, as President Donald Trump is reportedly hesitant to further disrupt oil markets in the final days of the campaign.

One source indicated that the operations would commence soon after the elections conclude, stating, "Hunting season is open as soon as the elections end and it's obvious that they're not going to wait long." The White House has not commented on the reports, and the Pentagon has declined to do so.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly supports the renewed action against Iran. However, the decision to proceed with joint strikes rests solely with President Trump, according to the Israeli sources. One source suggested that Israel might proceed with unilateral strikes if the U.S. does not participate, but would still require U.S. approval.

Discussions and Potential Targets

Plans for renewed joint strikes were reportedly discussed during Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's unannounced visit to Israel earlier this week. During this visit, new intelligence was shared between the two nations, an Israeli source confirmed.

The proposed strikes would aim to further weaken Iran's economy, complementing the existing U.S. blockade. Potential targets include petrochemical facilities vital to Iran's oil industry. Additionally, plans reportedly include striking Iranian nuclear facilities, such as those at Pickaxe Mountain, though civilian infrastructure like power plants are not expected to be targeted.

For Israel, the ultimate objective appears to be regime change in Iran rather than a negotiated settlement, with the primary question being one of timing, according to one source.

White House Statement

The White House stated on Thursday that the U.S. would not initiate attacks on Iran before the midterm elections. White House spokesperson Anna Kelly issued a statement saying, "As President [Donald] Trump stated, Iran is in very bad condition, both economically and militarily, and the blockade will remain in full force and effect, with oil flowing in record numbers of barrels through the Hormuz Strait. The United States will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the midterm elections."
