US Ambassador Mike Waltz Clashes with Cuba's Foreign Minister at UN
A heated exchange at the United Nations General Assembly saw U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz confront Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla over alleged illicit wealth within the Cuban regime.
A fiery confrontation erupted at the United Nations General Assembly Tuesday, with U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz engaging in a shouted dispute with Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla. The exchange focused on accusations of illicit wealth held by Cuban elites.
Video of the incident shows Waltz presenting a photograph of late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro wearing two Rolex watches, which he estimated to be worth approximately $40,000. "According to the regime's own statistics, that would pay for 55 years of an average Cuban wage," Waltz stated, adding that such luxury was not limited to Castro but extended to the current Cuban President, who was also seen wearing a Rolex.
In response, Parrilla reportedly approached the podium aggressively, calling Waltz a liar. Waltz retorted, "Back up!"
"He doesn't like hard truths. You can come and intimidate all you want," Waltz declared to the assembly, asserting that Parrilla would not intimidate him in the United States as he allegedly attempts to intimidate political prisoners.
The dispute escalated further when a Cuban delegate reportedly lunged at Waltz's spokesman, J.P. Freire, in an attempt to seize the iPhone Freire was using to record the confrontation. Freire told the Daily Mail that the same delegate had previously used intimidation tactics to cut off Waltz's microphone.
Freire also commented that "Under the Castro's communist regime, it's always the regime's turn."
