Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche has stated he cannot investigate allegations against Prince Andrew concerning the Jeffrey Epstein files because the former prince is refusing to cooperate, according to a statement from the family of the late Virginia Giuffre. Blanche met with Giuffre's brother and sister-in-law, Sky and Amanda Roberts, along with other survivors of Epstein, on Thursday at the Department of Justice headquarters in Washington.
Republican senators had previously threatened to block Blanche's confirmation as Attorney General, with outgoing Senator Thom Tillis indicating he would not vote to advance the nomination until Blanche met with the survivors. During the meeting, Sky Roberts reportedly confronted Blanche about the investigation into Epstein's alleged co-conspirators.
Roberts told The Times that when he presented Prince Andrew as an example, citing Giuffre's testimony and evidence, Blanche responded that the prince "won't co-operate with me" and that Giuffre's testimony could not be used because she was not present. Roberts described the interaction as feeling like Blanche was "not willing to work with us."
Virginia Giuffre, who died last year, had accused Prince Andrew of sexually assaulting her on three separate occasions when she was allegedly being sex trafficked by Epstein. Prince Andrew has denied any wrongdoing and stated he does not recall meeting Giuffre. He has not been charged with any offenses related to these allegations.
Documents released from the Epstein files have also suggested that Prince Andrew may have forwarded confidential government itineraries and commercial reports to Epstein. Separately, Thames Valley Police in the United Kingdom are investigating the former Duke of York for alleged misconduct in public office during his tenure as a trade envoy.
