An urgent recall has been issued for Skip Hop Baby Sesame Street Elmo Silicone Teethers sold at Carter's retail stores and online due to a choking hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced. The black pupils on Elmo's eyes can detach, posing a risk of serious injury or death.

Approximately 22,660 of the teethers were sold in the United States and 3,177 in Canada between January 2025 and March 2026 for about $12 each. The recalled product is identified by model number 9R263210, located on a red tag attached to the side of the attached fabric crayon box.

The CPSC recall number is 26-739. The issue primarily arises when the teether is frozen, causing the black pupil section to separate. Four consumers have reported the eyes detaching, though no injuries have been reported to date.

Parents who have the recalled teether are advised to immediately stop use and remove it from children's possession. Consumers should contact Skip Hop for a refund in the form of a gift card, along with instructions for safe disposal of the product. The gift card can be used at William Carter Company brand stores, including Carter's, Skip Hop, OshKosh B'gosh, and Little Planet.

The importer for the product is The William Carter Company of Atlanta, Georgia, and the distributor is Skip Hop Inc. of New York. This recall follows other recent product recalls impacting children's items, including asbestos-containing squeeze toys sold at Walmart and Ollie's Bargain Outlet in May, and TikTok viral fake Squeezy Dumpling toys recalled in July due to chemical risks.
