An Upstate New York nurse was killed by her husband in a murder-suicide incident just hours after returning from a family reunion, according to police and family members. Gabrielle Forman, 30, was shot and killed by Jadet Forman, 37, in their Cohoes apartment on Tuesday afternoon. The firearm used in the incident was an untraceable "ghost gun."
Cohoes Mayor Bill Keeler confirmed the event was a murder-suicide, stating that the husband shot his wife before turning the gun on himself. Gabrielle Forman, who worked at a hospital in Saratoga, had recently returned from a trip to Georgia celebrating her mother's birthday and her sister starting college.
Her godmother, Angelia Major, described Forman as having a "beautiful soul." According to a cousin, Gabrielle Forman was on a FaceTime call with her mother when her husband entered the room, took the phone, and ended the call. Gabrielle's mother, concerned, asked her son to check on Gabrielle, who then heard gunfire while en route to the apartment.
The couple had been married for two years and were in the process of divorcing. Gabrielle's father, Owen Sterling, remembered her as "beautiful, smart, loving, caring" and "a beautiful soul."
Cohoes Police Chief Todd Waldin stated that the ghost gun used in the attack is illegal for anyone to possess because it lacks a serial number and can be assembled from parts ordered through the mail. Jadet Forman had no prior criminal history, and there had been no previous 911 calls to the apartment, despite claims from Gabrielle's family that he had a history of violence. Police are investigating how he obtained the firearm.
