Unlikely Bond Forms Between Serial Killer's Ex-Wife and Survivor

An unusual alliance has formed between Bonnie Lou, the ex-wife of serial killer Richard Marc Evonitz, and Kara Robinson Chamberlain, one of his victims.

Evonitz was responsible for the murders of three teenage girls in Virginia in the 1990s. He also abducted and sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl in South Carolina, who managed to escape after 18 hours of captivity. This escape ultimately brought an end to his killing spree as police closed in.

Chamberlain, who has since become a victim advocate, reached out to Lou in 2024 via Instagram, initiating contact between the two women bound by the predator's actions. The details of their communication and the subsequent friendship are highlighted in the new Crime Desk US newsletter.

Lou had long tried to reconcile the man she knew as her husband with the reality of his crimes revealed by the FBI. Chamberlain, driven by the belief that Evonitz had impacted more lives than officially known, felt compelled to connect with Lou.

Kara and Bonnie have struck up an unlikely friendship in the years since Evonitz took his own life as police closed in
