A 27-year-old woman died Sunday in The Bronx after receiving an anti-aging serum injection at the Bereshit Lifestyle Center, and the individual who administered the procedure, identified as unlicensed doctor Luis Rojas Cabrera, 55, has been arrested.
The incident occurred around noon on Sunday at the wellness center located on Riverdale Avenue. Following the procedure, the woman, identified as Elizabeth Baron, fell unconscious. Center staff contacted authorities, and Baron was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at approximately 1:10 p.m.
Cabrera was arrested hours after the incident and faces charges including reckless endangerment and unauthorized practice of a profession. Sources indicated that while Cabrera is licensed to practice medicine in the Dominican Republic, he is not licensed to practice in the United States.
The city medical examiner's office is conducting a toxicology report. The results of this report are expected to determine whether additional charges will be filed against Cabrera.
