University of Texas Launches AI Lab to Enhance Athletic Performance and Student Learning
Bevo Lab, a collaboration between UT Athletics and the McCombs School of Business, aims to use artificial intelligence for improved decision-making, training, and recruiting.

The University of Texas has established Bevo Lab, a new sports intelligence platform and laboratory that will leverage artificial intelligence to enhance athletic performance and provide students with practical learning experiences.
This initiative, a joint effort between UT Athletics and the McCombs School of Business, seeks to make Texas Athletics the most data-driven program in the nation. The lab will employ AI-driven research and data analytics to assist athletes and coaches in making training and preparation more efficient, as well as aiding in the recruitment process. Google will serve as the AI provider, supplying its Cloud Platform and Gemini AI system to support the lab's operations.
Bevo Lab is designed to integrate various data sources, including game film and wearable technology, into a unified data warehouse known as the Bevo Lakehouse. This platform will also feature predictive AI models and visual language interfaces. Students involved in the lab will gain valuable experience for future careers in sports technology and analytics.
While the lab's focus is on data analysis and performance improvement, it will not be directly involved in strategic decision-making like calling plays during games. Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte stated that Bevo Lab will provide the university with a significant opportunity to improve its athletic programs. He also expressed his vision for the lab to become a global benchmark for innovation in sports AI and data analytics, transforming collegiate athletics.
Bevo Lab is named after the university's live longhorn mascot, Bevo.
