University of Georgia Student Survives Eighth-Story Fall After Dancing on Couch

A University of Georgia student miraculously survived a fall from an eighth-story window onto a second-floor pool deck after dancing on a couch at her off-campus apartment. Kristin Sargent, 21, fell through an open window and landed on a metal pool chair.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on a Saturday, according to a police report. Sargent was with friends celebrating the Georgia Bulldogs' victory over the Oklahoma Sooners when she fell. Her 911 call was placed moments after the fall, capturing the immediate aftermath with a friend in audible distress.

"We're on the eighth floor; my friend just fell out of the window on the eighth floor," the caller told the dispatcher. "We were dancing, and she just fell out of the window."

The friend confirmed to the dispatcher that Sargent was breathing, her eyes were open, and she was responsive. She indicated that Sargent had been drinking, describing it as "nothing extreme."

A second 911 call came from a male resident who witnessed the fall from his fifth-floor apartment. He reported seeing someone fall from the eighth floor and land near the pool, adding, "They're unconscious at least... We heard a noise and looked out and, yeah, it doesn't look good."

Sargent, a senior studying finance and marketing, was transported to a hospital and is being treated for multiple injuries in the intensive care unit. Her father, Richard Sargent, shared that his daughter understands how fortunate she is to have survived with broken bones and has expressed disbelief at being alive.

The apartment building, The Rambler, has stated it is cooperating with the investigation. A message sent to residents reminded them of the safety features on all windows and warned against tampering with or disengaging them. Police are investigating the incident as an accident, and it is unclear if the window's safety feature was engaged or played a role.

Sargent is a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and works as an incoming full-time business analyst for Capital One after completing an internship with the company. A representative for The Rambler extended well wishes for her recovery and stated the building is gathering information on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
