A University of Florida freshman, 19-year-old Hazel Krauss, was killed Saturday night while crossing West University Avenue in Gainesville. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. when the driver of the vehicle that struck Krauss swerved to avoid another car.
Registered nurse Porchia Hardy, who was passing by, witnessed the accident and rushed to assist Krauss. "I’m a mom, and a nurse, so my mom and nurse had kicked in, and I mean she was in good care," Hardy told WCJB.
Despite Hardy's efforts, Krauss was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Further details regarding the specific circumstances of the crash are pending investigation.
