The United States celebrated its 250th anniversary with traditional festivities including fireworks and flyovers, but also faced extreme weather conditions across the country. The milestone was marked by reflections from the four living former U.S. presidents on the nation's progress and challenges.

Joe Biden emphasized that the Declaration of Independence's assertion of equality was the beginning of a continuous effort. "We chose that path 250 years ago but that's where the work began, not where it ended," Biden stated, characterizing the nation's promise of equality as a work in progress.

Barack Obama, the country's first Black president, shared remarks from a recent speech, highlighting the recurring need for each generation to advance the work of their predecessors. George W. Bush urged Americans to be active citizens, stating that "the next 250 years require Americans to be citizens, not spectators."

Bill Clinton commented on the current political climate, noting the celebrations occur "amid another period of deep division, renewed questions about America's future and role in the world, and serious threats to our own institutions and to our democracy itself."

Donald Trump's address focused on aspects of his political agenda while also honoring war veterans and American history.
