The United Cajun Navy has issued a correction regarding the clothing worn by missing teen Nolan Wells when his body was discovered. The volunteer organization confirmed that Wells was not fully clothed, clarifying previous statements that had caused confusion.

During a press conference announcing preliminary autopsy results, civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump had stated that Wells' body was found "fully clothed" on Horn Island, despite the teen having been seen earlier that day wearing only swimming trunks. This assertion appears to have originated from an interview on "The Nancy Grace Show," where the host questioned Todd Terrell, founder and president of the United Cajun Navy, about the discovery.

In the interview, Grace asked Terrell if Wells was found "face down, still fully clothed, on the beach." Terrell responded affirmatively. He later told the Sun Herald that he should have corrected Grace at the time, explaining he was caught off guard and agreed because the body was clothed, not fully clothed. Terrell added that he was on the phone for the show only three minutes before it aired.

A pilot from the United Cajun Navy spotted Wells' body from the air on July 6, 2026, on the northwest end of Horn Island. Terrell confirmed that the pilot observed Wells was wearing swim trunks, consistent with what others on the island were wearing that day. Wells was pictured earlier in the day wearing blue swim trunks.

Wells, a football player, went missing on July 4th while on a boating trip with friends. Representatives for Benjamin Crump did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
