United Airlines Flight 1403, en route from Los Angeles to Newark, made an emergency landing at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on Thursday morning following an issue with one of the aircraft's engines. The flight, carrying 176 passengers and seven crew members, landed safely around 7 a.m. local time, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines.
Passengers and crew deplaned the Boeing 757 after the engine problem, often referred to as an "engine snafu" by the airline. They are currently awaiting a replacement flight to their original destination. One passenger described the experience on social media platform X as "terrifying," noting the engine failure occurred at 31,000 feet.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the specific nature of the engine issue that led to the diversion. The FAA stated it plans to investigate the incident.
This event occurred days after a Delta Air Lines flight, also departing from Los Angeles, was forced to divert to Detroit on Tuesday due to a pilot's medical emergency. That flight was carrying 147 passengers.
