United Airlines Expands North American Network with Five New Nonstop Routes

United Airlines is introducing five new nonstop routes across North America, with three of these new services connecting to Canadian cities. The expansion includes two new domestic routes and three international ones, reflecting a deepening partnership with Air Canada.

The international destinations are Denver to Ottawa, Denver to Quebec City, and Newark to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. The Denver to Ottawa route marks a return for United, which discontinued the service in 2010. The Newark to St. John’s route is seasonal and represents United’s return to Newfoundland and Labrador for the first time since 2016.

Domestically, United is adding nonstop flights between Houston, Texas, and Joplin, Missouri, and between Washington Dulles and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. These domestic additions are reportedly a response to ongoing construction and operational restrictions at Chicago O’Hare International Airport.

The new international routes are part of a transborder business agreement between United and Air Canada. Air Canada is also expanding its network, adding flights between Toronto and Louisville, and Quebec City and Indianapolis, with seasonal service expected from June through September. Additionally, Air Canada will offer new flights between Edmonton and Newark.

United and Air Canada aim to add as many as 10 additional U.S.-Canada itineraries. "Air Canada and United’s long-standing partnership continues to deliver meaningful results for our customers and communities," said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer and President, Cargo at Air Canada, on October 16. "For nearly three decades, Air Canada and United have worked to facilitate seamless travel and strengthen connectivity between Canada and the United States."

These route changes follow recent adjustments by United Airlines, including the introduction of a cheaper first-class fare and an update to its noise policy in February. The updated policy requires passengers to wear headphones when listening to audio content on personal electronic devices. The airline also recently dealt with an incident in October where a passenger was accused of assaulting flight attendants.
