Sedor Olmez, 20, admitted to killing Laura Sone-Demetrious, 28, and her two dogs when he struck them with his BMW 3 Series 330e on a pedestrian crossing on the A10 Great Cambridge Road in Enfield, north London. The incident occurred on January 9, 2024.
Olmez, who was 17 at the time of the incident, entered his guilty pleas at the Old Bailey to causing death by dangerous driving and causing death while uninsured. He appeared in court alongside co-defendant Roderick Mirzakhanian, 31, who faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving.
Mirzakhanian was unable to enter a plea, as his legal team has not yet received access to prosecution case files. Judge Lynn Tayton adjourned his case until October 2, when he is expected to enter his plea. The judge indicated that Olmez's sentencing, scheduled for early November, may be influenced by Mirzakhanian's position.
Olmez has no previous convictions. The court heard that guidelines suggest a custodial sentence for his admitted offenses. He has been granted bail and is disqualified from driving.
Ms. Sone-Demetrious was remembered by her family as a loving mother and a caring individual. Her sister Gina described her as an "angel in disguise," while her cousin Chris Chaplin called her a "great mum and cousin."
