Unidentified Teenager Kills Three Children and Teacher at Oregon Elementary School, Dies by Bystander Fire

A 16-year-old male, whose identity remains unknown, killed three children and a teacher at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, on Thursday before being fatally shot by a bystander. The incident began around 12:59 p.m. when the suspect, armed with a pump-action "long gun" reportedly purchased by his mother, allegedly forced entry into the school.

The suspect entered the school's special education area, where he fatally shot children aged five, eight, and 11, along with a teacher. Two other individuals, a seven-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher, sustained critical injuries and were transported to a hospital.

Police have not yet established a motive for the attack and described the gunman solely as a resident of Bend. It is unclear if the suspect had any prior connection to the school.

Authorities stated the shooting commenced with the assailant firing upon a red pickup truck in the school parking lot before scaling the school fence. The driver of the truck subsequently contacted emergency dispatchers.

The rampage concluded approximately three minutes before law enforcement arrived, when an unnamed bystander pursued the shooter into the school and engaged him, resulting in the gunman's death. Audio from emergency dispatches suggests the bystander may have been a parent at the school.

Officials have not confirmed whether the suspect had a history of threats or disciplinary issues, or if other weapons were involved. Information regarding any notes or digital evidence recovered has also not been released.

In Oregon, individuals under 18 are prohibited from purchasing firearms, though minors can possess them with parental consent for specific activities like hunting. The state has enacted several gun safety laws in recent years.
