Seven people were killed and 49 injured after Ukrainian drones struck two warehouses belonging to Russia's largest online retailer, Wildberries, Russian officials reported. The attacks occurred on Wednesday.
All seven fatalities and 25 of the injuries took place at a Wildberries warehouse in Tambov, a city approximately 295 miles (475 km) southeast of Moscow. An additional 24 individuals were injured at another Wildberries warehouse in Elektrostal, located in the Moscow region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the strikes targeted "major logistics facilities" allegedly used to "supply sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment." He also mentioned that Ukraine had conducted operations in the Sea of Azov, the Black Sea, and Russian-annexed Crimea.
Zelensky characterized these operations as a response to "Russian strikes on our civilian infrastructure and on our cities and communities." This comes after Russian attacks across Ukraine overnight into Wednesday, which killed 14 people.
Wildberries is frequently compared to Amazon in Russia. In 2026, Forbes Russia valued the merged RWB group, which includes Wildberries and an advertising company, at approximately $12.6 billion (£9.3 billion).
Wildberries CEO Tatyana Kim described the night as "terrible" for Russia and the company. The governor of the Tambov region, Evgeniy Pervyshov, reported that seven employees working the night shift died at the scene and that 28 drones were shot down upon approach. He also stated that 25 people sustained injuries, with one in critical condition and six in serious condition, primarily from shrapnel wounds.
In the Moscow region, governor Andrei Vorobyov reported that some of the injured at the Elektrostal warehouse were in "serious condition." He also noted that a total of 48 drones were shot down in the Moscow region overnight and that a Russian oil depot was struck by a falling drone, an incident he described as having "the most serious consequences." Firefighters and emergency services responded to the scene, though the extent of the damage was not detailed. Zelensky confirmed Ukraine had also struck "an oil facility."
