Ukraine has struck Russian vessels carrying Iran-linked military cargo in the Caspian Sea, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Saturday.

The Caspian Sea connects Russia and Iran, two strategic allies, and Zelensky stated on social media platform X that Ukraine achieved "very strong results with long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea – including vessels used in military cargo shipments involving Iran."

This development follows a warning issued Friday by former President Donald Trump to China and Russia against providing weapons to Iran. Trump stated on his Truth Social platform that such actions would be "very bad for them — certainly not in their best interests."

"President Putin, despite the horrible war going on in Ukraine, told me that he would not sell weapons to Iran," Trump wrote. He later told reporters at the White House that he believed Putin on this matter.

Earlier in the week, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth indicated to a Senate hearing that Russia and China were involved with Iran in unspecified ways. "There are ways in which both of those countries are, at different levels, enabling some of the things Iran is doing, yes," Hegseth said.
