Ukraine launched one of the war's most extensive drone attacks over the weekend, targeting Moscow and its surrounding areas. Simultaneously, Russia conducted a significant barrage against Ukraine, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure.
In Ukraine, Russian strikes killed two people at the ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih steel plant, located in President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's hometown. The company stated on Telegram that the attack damaged main production facilities for energy and blast furnaces, leading to a partial halt in production processes. Russian attacks also caused fires in Kyiv, injuring six people. Regional Ukrainian authorities reported that at least seven people were killed and 51 injured in total from Russian strikes over the weekend.
President Zelenskyy commented on X (formerly Twitter) that "Wherever the Russians can reach with their ballistic missiles, they strike civilian infrastructure." Ukrainian forces reported hitting warehouses connected to Russia's largest online retailer during their drone assault.
Separately, a NATO jet on an air policing mission intercepted and shot down an unidentified drone in Romanian airspace on Saturday. This marks the fourth unmanned aircraft to be downed over Romania this year, according to the country's defense ministry.
